As a member of NAFGPD, you can expect....
- Participation in a broad-based effort to support and preserve the integrity and funding stream of FGP and the other programs of the national Senior Service Corps, RSVP and SCP.
- Regular reports from the NAFGPDs Washington Representative and/or President. These reports will keep you current as to the activities of the Corporation for National Service, the NAFGPD, other related agencies and organizations, and the National Senior Service Corp in general.
- Regular updates from your Cluster Representatives, as well as requests for your participation in important Congressional advocacy campaigns.
- Timely information on: legislation which directly or indirectly impacts you and your volunteers; new grant possibilities; the progress of the Corporation relative to promoting and expanding FGP and the role of our volunteers; and other related topics.
- Technical assistance in preparing your continuation proposals, administrative cost increase proposals, or Programs of National Significance grants.
- Minutes of the bi-annual meetings of the NAFGPD's Board of Directors.
- Presentation of your concerns and issues at the NAFGPD's Board meetings.
- The opportunity to purchase recognition and other items at special members-only prices.
Here is what you can do:
- Contact your Cluster Representative with your ideas, concerns, and insights. Communication is a two-way process - our shared knowledge is a source of power!
- Respond in a positive and timely manner to NAFGPD's request for letters and/or telephone calls to members of Congress regarding issues vital to the future of the FGP. Together, we speak in a very loud voice, and the strength of our voice will be critical in the political environment!
- Contact your U.S. Senators and Representatives on a regular basis (at least quarterly), and tell them about your program and the work of your volunteers. Using personal vignettes and stories, let them know the incredible impact the federal dollars they have invested in your program have produced on both your volunteers and the children they serve. Let the members of your Congressional delegation know that they are welcome to visit your program at any time, and that you are willing to serve as a resource for them on issues related to national service and older people in general.
- Submit agenda items to your Cluster Representatives for the bi-annual meetings of the NAFGPD Board of Directors.
- Offer to serve as a link in the fax and telephone communications "tree" between your Cluster Representative and the other program directors in your state.
- If you join NAFGPD as a professional member, consider running for election as a Cluster Representative or alternate.
- Call or write to your Cluster Representative when you have questions about grant protocols or other Corporation issues.
Encourage other program directors, staff, your sponsor, advisory council members, and Corporation staff to join NAFGPD.
